Beagling

Beagling has some similarities to foxhunting in that the hounds hunt primarily by scent. However, in Beagling there are no horses involved. The hunt of the hare is on foot with a pack of dogs. The sport of beagling was first developed around 1400 AD.

The modern beagle typically stands between 14 and 16 inches at the shoulder and has an athletic build. Today, there is a significant difference in the appearance of the show and hunting type beagles. In addition to Beagles, the Basset Hound is also used in Beagling.

A beagle is usually introduced to hunting at around the age of 18 months, and will hunt for about eight seasons after that, although some last much longer.
